Academic Achievement:
Carrie Gordon holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Bishop College, a Master of Arts Degree in Political Economy from the University of Texas at Dallas, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Administration and Management from Columbia Pacific University.   

Business Experience:
With over 22 years of service as a Senior Planner with the City of Dallas, Dr. Gordon has worked as an Urban Planner in the areas of Current Planning/ Zoning, Long-Range Planning, Board of Adjustment, and Housing. Dr. Gordon also possesses professional skills in the areas of Neighborhood /Community Planning, Training and Organizational Development, and Entrepreneurship.

While serving as a part-time planner for the City of Dallas (14 consecutive years), she did a tremendous job. She wrote 10 neighborhood plans and area studies that involved working closely with citizens for consensus building, attorneys, developers, stakeholders, business and property owners, other cities and agencies (DART, North Central Texas Council of Governments, and Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)). In this capacity, she was also responsible for creation of Plan document, writing Planned Development District ordinances, and processing zoning cases. The Plans are used by other City departments and agencies as a basis for future planning initiatives in Dallas.

She is currently involved with the development and revision of City of Dallas ordinances and serves as liaison on three (3) special committees.

Elected Positions & Appointments:
Dr. Gordon’s professional work experience has helped to benefit the Balch Springs community as a member of the Hilltop Homeowners Association, Planning and Zoning Commission (10 years), Charter Review Commission (2002 and 2008); and Chamber of Commerce.  In addition, she assisted the City of Balch Springs staff in updating the Balch Springs Master Plan; spearheaded the Balch Springs East Annexation Area Plan; and she established the Zoning Ordinance Review Committee to supplement the efforts of the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council.

Professional Memberships & Affiliations:
Professional affiliations include the Balch Springs Chamber of Commerce, American Planning Association, National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (The Grammy®Awards, voting member), and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (Alpha Xi Omega Chapter).

Family:
Dr. Gordon and her husband Dr. Larry "T-Byrd" Gordon (Grammy® Award nomination for Southern Meets Soul: An American Gospel Jubilee) have been together for 32 years (celebrated their 20 year anniversary in December 2008). Larry “Lil’ Larry” Gordon II is their only son. He attended Baylor University and recently transferred to Dallas Baptist University after signing a Songwriter/Recording Artist contract with The Curb Music Group/Curb Records.

To add to her biographical sketch, she is a professional vocalist that has worked with Grammy Award Winners Art Greenhaw of the Light Crust Doughboys, Nokie Edwards of The Ventures, Grammy Nominee Dr. Larry "T-Byrd" Gordon, Willie Mitchell (formerly Cream Hi Records), and the late Homer Banks (formerly Cream Hi Records). This is a musical family with a 16-piece orchestra/show band that performs locally, nationally, and abroad for a variety of events. And they have either appeared on the same show with or along side great artists such as Patti Paige, Rita Moreno, The Oak Ridge Boys, Willie Nelson, Haddaway, The Commodores, Dennis Edwards and The Temptations, and so on.
